Description
Starting from the archaeological area of the castle of Lombardia, with the Rocca di Cerere, the rock sanctuary of Santa Ninfa and the Via Sacra, our journey in the city of Myth begins. In fact, the medieval remains of the castle hide more ancient traces that date back to the Greek period and beyond: here, according to classical authors, stood the oldest temple dedicated to the cult of the goddesses Demeter and Kore.
Walking through the narrow and winding alleys, among tales, anecdotes and local stories, we will also travel among the shops in the center, which still preserve ancient knowledge and enveloping aromas and flavors. We will treat ourselves to a delicious restorative break at Paolo’s bread-making laboratory, where expert hands create works with an unparalleled taste, masterfully working the flours of local grains, which represent the greatest gift that Demeter has given to this land.
Passing through the Belvedere, a unique experience awaits us with a visit to the restoration workshop of Maestro Angelo, between stories of passion and sacrifice and demonstrations of often very ancient wood decoration techniques.
Our tour will then move towards the tower of Federico until reaching the hermitage of Monte Salvo, where the obelisk symbol of the center of Sicily stands out, and then cross the narrow streets of the Fundrisi district with its Janniscuru gate, the only medieval city gate left in the city.
